But MOST interesting is this quote by Nazri the law[less] minister:

The High Court, in its ruling on Dec 31, had contended that “there was no evidence to show that the use of ‘Allah’ (by non-Muslims) could incite violence”. Nazri conceded that such incidents had not happened during the hearing and the government could not, therefore, produce such evidence in court. The subsequent arson attacks on the churches, continued Nazri, “proved that the government was right (about the ‘Allah’ ban)”.

Similarly in NST:

He said banning the use of “Allah” by Christians was a preemptive move to stop outbreaks of religious violence in the nation, and the government was proven right in doing so when churches were attacked following the High Court ruling in favour of the Herald weekly.

Things that make you go hmmmmm …..

So what’s the story behind the story? The theories are as follows:

Theory #1 (a.k.a UMNO’s [and even a few Christians'] theory):

This is all the Herald’s fault. It’s all cause and effect.

If they weren’t so damn adamant about this here WORD, if they had just kept quiet and stayed away from Court, this would never have happened.

Further, the church burnings were random acts of random individuals – we, UMNO, the guardians of Malay rights and supremacy, had NOTHING to do with this! We never condoned anything!! Promise! Swear to God! Cross my heart, hope to die, stick a needle in my eye!

So damn you Herald and the Catholic Church for all this!

Verdict: Bloody Nonsense.

Theory #2 (a.k.a The RPK theory):

Verdict: Plausible … but if so, they would have declared emergency by now … or done a couple of more burnings to justify declaring emergency. Perhaps they were expecting the protests they condoned to end in total anarchy and bloodshed.

In which case this theory, if true, has fizzled out on them.

Theory #3
(aka ‘The let’s win back 50% of the voting public’s support’ or ‘Let’s bring all the Malays back to UMNO’)………….

Malays comprise nearly 50% of the population – many of whom are sick of UMNO/BN and are now either PKR or PAS supporters.

Since PKR and PAS are all for the idea that “Allah” is for all, UMNO/BN probably think that almost all other Malays do not agree with this and are hopping mad.

Therefore, this is the opportune time for UMNO/BN to woo all these disgruntled, dejected Malays back into their fold.

Cue: Condone the protests, let things get out of hand, then swoop down like Superman to the rescue. All Malays will be thankful UMNO saved the country from these nefarious elements, upheld their religious rights and put the pendatangs back in their rightful place! UMNO boleh!

Verdict: Possible, because UMNO can only see as far as their fat nose – they didn’t account for the facts that:

i) Many, MANY Malay-Muslims have NO PROBLEM with Bahasa-speaking East Malaysian Christians (or anyone else) using the word “Allah”.

ii) East Malaysian Christians are now thoroughly incensed, and they are THE ONLY REASON Barisan Nasional are still in power. Let’s all now see what they’ll do in the upcoming State Elections and in the next GE.

Result: This theory, if true, has totally backfired big time on BN. They’ve committed political suicide … best thing is they didn’t even see it coming! UMNO bodoh!

Theory #4 (aka: The Sungai Wang Philosopher’s Theory):

Who? Yes, I got this theory from a philosopher who spends half his life in Sungai Wang Plaza.

There is a loose affiliation of millionaires and billionares – some are captains of industry, some are big foriegn investors.

All of them have been beneficiaries to BN’s largesse [read cronyism and corruption] in the past, but can now see that all this pillage and plunder is bringing the economy slowly to the brink of collapsing upon itself.

They also notice that BN will not EVER relinquish control of the country and will most likely take the country down with them.

This Loose Affiliation of Millionaires and Billionaires [the L.A.M.Bs] cannot be silent while the country and all they’ve invested in goes down the 1Toilet.

They have to kick UMNO/BN out before it’s too late.

Cue: Relocation of Hindu temple in Shah Alam, missing jet engines, Biro Tata Negara fiasco and now Herald … all these are opportunities for them to instigate a handful of dumb animals to create some havoc.

And knowing Najib’s way of handling things [see Theory #4, above, for an example] – this will most likely cause yet another big red mark on his report card.

Result: UMNO/BN have once again shot themselves in the foot and banged the final nail into their coffin. Bye-bye BN, and sooner than you think.

This theory, if true, would see, very soon, another ‘national crisis’ which Najib and Co. will fail to handle properly [because they can't see beyond their fat noses], thereby placing their coffin into the ground and burying it.

Verdict: Hollywood would want the rights for the movie and the Sungai Wang philosopher would be the next Tom Clancy.

Right these are the theories, so decide which is your favourite:

Let’s be reminded that the Herald’s application for Judicial Review (JR)  was only limited to the following:

ie: to have the Home Minister’s  prohibition of the use of the word “Allah” in its Bahasa Malaysia section declared “ultra vires”. (See the report in theSun 5 May 2008)

Putting it another way, the reason behind the JR was to enable the word to be used in Herald’s Bahasa Malaysia section for the benefit of  East Malaysian and other Bahasa-speaking Catholics who have since time immemorial used “Allah” in their texts and prayers, and is therefore their right under the Constitution.

As such, the High Court’s decision has wrongly been expanded by various sections of the public until it now appears that the Catholic Church has succeeded in getting the Court to declare that “Allah” can now be used by all and sundry for any old reason.

This was NOT the intention of the Justice Lau, Archbishop Murphy, Fr. Lawrence or any Catholic for that matter.

Hotel raids net unmarried couples

Fifty-two unmarried couples could face charges of sexual misconduct and jail terms after being caught in hotel rooms by Malaysia’s Islamic morality police.

Scores of officers conducted raids on budget hotels on New Year’s Day in the western state of Selangor. Those detained in the early hours of New Year’s Day were mainly students and young factory workers.

The Muslim couples are expected to be charged with the offence of close proximity, or Khalwat. Under Malaysia’s Islamic Sharia Law, couples who are not married to each other should not be in a secluded area or confined space, which could give rise to suspicion that they were engaged in immoral acts.

A spokesman for the Selangor State Islamic Department (JAIS) says they chose New Year’s Day because many people are known to commit this offence when celebrating a major holiday.

If convicted, the couples could get a maximum penalty of two years in prison and a fine. Sharia laws in Malaysia apply only to Malay Muslims, who make up over half the population.

QUESTION: Is JAIS under the purview of Selangor State Govt or Federal Govt?

And don’t tell me “this is a Muslim issue, non-Muslims are not targeted (so butt out)” – cos, hello, just imagine these JAIS goons banging around hotel room doors and forcing their way in in the middle of the night; imagine the noise and tension they would be creating – EVERYONE in that hotel would be affected and inconvenienced.

What if they ‘mistakenly’ started hassling a non-Muslim couple [like what happened to an American tourist couple in Langkawi not long ago]?

What if a non-Muslim gets caught with a Muslim? Does one go free or do both get nabbed?

If one goes free and one goes in – this is ‘double standard justice’ and … heh … DISCRIMINATION/PERSECUTION BASED ON A PERSON’S RELIGION.
[This is eerily reminiscent of Hitler's regime - white Jews get caught but white non-Jews go free.]

If both go in, this would be forcing a non-Muslim to be subject to Islamic law.

Moral policing HAS GOT TO STOP. It simply CANNOT WORK in a multi-ethnic/religious country.

Yet another "Pakatan is crumbling" story

I never buy/read the mainstream media (MSM) but this just had to catch my eye:

Zulkifli (the mad mullah) Nordin dares Sivarasa to quit post, I gathered from the headline – worse still, 7 Pakatan MPs have aligned with the mad one.

“Pakatan Rakyat (PR) tearing at the seams! See? We told you so! They are in disarray!! They are a sinking ship! So don’t be a fool! Forget these losers! Support BN/UMNO again!!” is the message those who read the MSMs daily are bombarded with.

So much so, an avid MSM follower recently remarked to me that, “this Najib-fler isn’t all that bad lar, he’s implementing all the Pakatan ideas, so good lar. But I donno lar, cannot trust Anwar … donno Pakatan can lead us or not.”

Another acquaintance was reacting to how PR state govts are administering their states these past 52-odd weeks: “I’ve been patient long enough! No more!”

Patient for 52 weeks while previously you were ‘patient’ with BN/UMNO for 52 YEARS? 

I delivered my usual response on both occasions: “Well, you have given BN/UMNO 52 years to make a mess of  things, why not give Pakatan a chance this time round? I’m sure they can’t make THAT bad a mess in 5 years – even if they do, ok lar, vote them out.”

So anyway, back to the common perception that PR is breaking apart (while the utter chaos that is taking place in MCA is reported by the above paper as ‘aiya normal lorr, mmm sai kheng maaa…’)

The follwing is a revelation which wil NEVER be revealed by the crap you pick up every morning:

A New Kind of Politics Emerging in PR (Malaysiakini – excerpts)

PKR may be perceived as being wrecked with internal conflicts because the public does not understand this “new kind of politics”, said several PKR parliamentarians.

Speaking to reporters in parliament today, Kulim-Bandar Baru MP Zulkifli Noordin said that there should be room for criticism between and among party members.

“I was in New York recently and saw Democratic Party member openly criticising their president, and the president accepted it with an open heart,” he said.

When asked if such open criticisms will tarnish the party’s image, he said: “That’s the beauty of Pakatan Rakyat, we may have differing views but share the same cause.”

He added that that the public must be educated on this “new kind of politics” even if they may not be ready for it.

Bloody hell, the mad mullah isn’t so mad after all. Praise be to God alleluia.

Another common concern I hear is, “Oh but what about PAS? They are scaryy!! They are for an Islamic State! Moral police! Beyonce bashers! Our way of life will be compromised, regardless of what your religion is! How can we vote Pakatan if PAS are always seen to be calling the shots?

I posted a video of an Anwar interview a few posts ago where Anwar goes on record as saying, he tolerates PAS’ protestations against secular ‘vices’ and clamour for a more Islamic Malaysia because:

“We should allow for these sorts of variations. (But) where do we draw the line? Don’t compel others to accept your view.

“People do ask me, ‘Anwar, you say that you’re quite tolerant, why then do you work with people who demand you set up an Islamic State?’ I say, ‘why should we deny people from just talking about it?’ But our position is clear.

“I don’t deny people from talking about a Socialist State, or a Capitalist State, or a Secular State … you want to practise Islam? Fair. But the principle of ‘freedom of conscience cannot be compromised.

“You want to impose certain conditions … censorship of pornography, yes, you can debate, but the principle of ‘freedom of expression’ cannot be compromised. These are sacrosanct in terms of Constitutional guarantees. So we will have to then negotiate or have conversations, but based on these basic principles. I don’t think we should dictate.”

 The Court of Appeal has struck out opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim’s appeal on a RM100 million defamation suit against former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Justice Abdul Malik Ishak,who led the three-member panel, allowed counsel, VK Lingam’s application, who appeared for Mahathir, to strike out the appeal on a technicality after a 75-minute break.

The technicality filed through a notice of motion by Lingam and supported by Mahathir’s affidavit centred on Anwar’s counsel having not prepared the memorandum of appeal via the national language, Bahasa Malaysia.

“This is in blatant disregard to provisions under Article 152 of the Federal Constitution read together with Section 8 of the National Language Act and the Interpretation Act or the Rules of the Court of Appeal,” Lingam submitted.

The court also struck out Anwar’s application filed today to seek an extension in time to submit a proper Memorandum of Appeal in Bahasa Malaysia.

Senior counsel Karpal Singh for Anwar had the court in stitches when he began his submission in Bahasa Malaysia before seeking permission from the court to speak in English.

“Such was the fuss in my learned friend (VK Lingam) to make this application seeming to champion the national language when in turn he stood up submitting in English without seeking the court’s permission,” said Karpal.

Karpal said the counsel (Lingam) was sly enough to bring this matter to the court’s attention, when the matter should have been brought up during case management.

Karpal said as senior members of the bar, Lingam should have educated and informed the other party about the mistake and not go through the back door by filing this notice of motion.

Anwar had sued the former prime minister for defamation over statements the latter made at a Suhakam conference.

KUALA LUMPUR: The case against Datuk V.K. Lingam in connection with the alleged brokering of judges, which was featured in a video clip, has been closed with no further action.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Abd Aziz said in a written reply to Lim Guan Eng (DAP-Bagan) on Monday that the investigation showed no criminal offence had been committed in the appointment of judges.

“After ACA officers investigated those involved in the video clip, it was concluded that there is no abuse of power.

“The Attorney-General (A-G) has decided that no further action is needed,” he said.

 Sentenced to jail and given a fine over and above the amount which, if appeals fail, will automatically disqualify him as an MP.

The Attorney-General Chambers is studying the matter. Under the proposed law, action would be taken against those not using Bahasa Malaysia during meetings, preparation of minutes and official functions.

A draft of the proposed amendments to the Acts has been discussed with the Education Ministry and would be tabled in Parliament.

Good heavens! Positively preposterous eh wot? Shorely they can’t be serious? Resorting to coercion? Forcing us all to speak Malay? Un-bloody-believable ol’ chap.

They do not seem to have the foggiest that not a single soul outside their country (save perhaps those mad dogs in Indonesia) gives a tuppence, farthing and a ha’penny about this language, doo they?

‘1Toilet’ plan to let teachers and students mingle freely

KUALA TERENGGANU: The state government will introduce a “1Toilet” policy in a move to liberalise education, where teachers – and even principals – will soon have to share toilets with their students.

State Education, Higher Learning, Human Resource, Science and Technology Committee chairman Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said the policy was mooted in line with the 1Malaysia concept, and teachers and students could have a feeling of “oneness”.

“We want students to have a sense of belonging that we believe would inspire them to excel further in their education. “When students share the toilets with the teacher, they (students) will believe that they are on par with academicians and this automatically invokes a sense of being important to an organisation, which, in this case, is the school,” he said here yesterday.

… and we’re wondering why this country is going down the toilet.
