Yet another "Pakatan is crumbling" story

I never buy/read the mainstream media (MSM) but this just had to catch my eye:

Zulkifli (the mad mullah) Nordin dares Sivarasa to quit post, I gathered from the headline – worse still, 7 Pakatan MPs have aligned with the mad one.

“Pakatan Rakyat (PR) tearing at the seams! See? We told you so! They are in disarray!! They are a sinking ship! So don’t be a fool! Forget these losers! Support BN/UMNO again!!” is the message those who read the MSMs daily are bombarded with.

So much so, an avid MSM follower recently remarked to me that, “this Najib-fler isn’t all that bad lar, he’s implementing all the Pakatan ideas, so good lar. But I donno lar, cannot trust Anwar … donno Pakatan can lead us or not.”

Another acquaintance was reacting to how PR state govts are administering their states these past 52-odd weeks: “I’ve been patient long enough! No more!”

Patient for 52 weeks while previously you were ‘patient’ with BN/UMNO for 52 YEARS? 

I delivered my usual response on both occasions: “Well, you have given BN/UMNO 52 years to make a mess of  things, why not give Pakatan a chance this time round? I’m sure they can’t make THAT bad a mess in 5 years – even if they do, ok lar, vote them out.”

So anyway, back to the common perception that PR is breaking apart (while the utter chaos that is taking place in MCA is reported by the above paper as ‘aiya normal lorr, mmm sai kheng maaa…’)

The follwing is a revelation which wil NEVER be revealed by the crap you pick up every morning:

A New Kind of Politics Emerging in PR (Malaysiakini – excerpts)

PKR may be perceived as being wrecked with internal conflicts because the public does not understand this “new kind of politics”, said several PKR parliamentarians.

Speaking to reporters in parliament today, Kulim-Bandar Baru MP Zulkifli Noordin said that there should be room for criticism between and among party members.

“I was in New York recently and saw Democratic Party member openly criticising their president, and the president accepted it with an open heart,” he said.

When asked if such open criticisms will tarnish the party’s image, he said: “That’s the beauty of Pakatan Rakyat, we may have differing views but share the same cause.”

He added that that the public must be educated on this “new kind of politics” even if they may not be ready for it.

Bloody hell, the mad mullah isn’t so mad after all. Praise be to God alleluia.

Another common concern I hear is, “Oh but what about PAS? They are scaryy!! They are for an Islamic State! Moral police! Beyonce bashers! Our way of life will be compromised, regardless of what your religion is! How can we vote Pakatan if PAS are always seen to be calling the shots?

I posted a video of an Anwar interview a few posts ago where Anwar goes on record as saying, he tolerates PAS’ protestations against secular ‘vices’ and clamour for a more Islamic Malaysia because:

“We should allow for these sorts of variations. (But) where do we draw the line? Don’t compel others to accept your view.

“People do ask me, ‘Anwar, you say that you’re quite tolerant, why then do you work with people who demand you set up an Islamic State?’ I say, ‘why should we deny people from just talking about it?’ But our position is clear.

“I don’t deny people from talking about a Socialist State, or a Capitalist State, or a Secular State … you want to practise Islam? Fair. But the principle of ‘freedom of conscience cannot be compromised.

“You want to impose certain conditions … censorship of pornography, yes, you can debate, but the principle of ‘freedom of expression’ cannot be compromised. These are sacrosanct in terms of Constitutional guarantees. So we will have to then negotiate or have conversations, but based on these basic principles. I don’t think we should dictate.”

Court throws out Anwar’s suit against Dr M

 The Court of Appeal has struck out opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim’s appeal on a RM100 million defamation suit against former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Justice Abdul Malik Ishak,who led the three-member panel, allowed counsel, VK Lingam’s application, who appeared for Mahathir, to strike out the appeal on a technicality after a 75-minute break.

The technicality filed through a notice of motion by Lingam and supported by Mahathir’s affidavit centred on Anwar’s counsel having not prepared the memorandum of appeal via the national language, Bahasa Malaysia.

“This is in blatant disregard to provisions under Article 152 of the Federal Constitution read together with Section 8 of the National Language Act and the Interpretation Act or the Rules of the Court of Appeal,” Lingam submitted.

The court also struck out Anwar’s application filed today to seek an extension in time to submit a proper Memorandum of Appeal in Bahasa Malaysia.

Senior counsel Karpal Singh for Anwar had the court in stitches when he began his submission in Bahasa Malaysia before seeking permission from the court to speak in English.

“Such was the fuss in my learned friend (VK Lingam) to make this application seeming to champion the national language when in turn he stood up submitting in English without seeking the court’s permission,” said Karpal.

Karpal said the counsel (Lingam) was sly enough to bring this matter to the court’s attention, when the matter should have been brought up during case management.

Karpal said as senior members of the bar, Lingam should have educated and informed the other party about the mistake and not go through the back door by filing this notice of motion.

Anwar had sued the former prime minister for defamation over statements the latter made at a Suhakam conference.

Case against Lingam CLOSED

KUALA LUMPUR: The case against Datuk V.K. Lingam in connection with the alleged brokering of judges, which was featured in a video clip, has been closed with no further action.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Abd Aziz said in a written reply to Lim Guan Eng (DAP-Bagan) on Monday that the investigation showed no criminal offence had been committed in the appointment of judges.

“After ACA officers investigated those involved in the video clip, it was concluded that there is no abuse of power.

“The Attorney-General (A-G) has decided that no further action is needed,” he said.

Meanwhile our MP for Batu Tian Chua is found guilty of hurting a cop who admitted he assaulted Tian first.

 Sentenced to jail and given a fine over and above the amount which, if appeals fail, will automatically disqualify him as an MP.

 Sentenced and fined for acting in self defence.

Take a Constitution that is not supreme, add the fact that the Judiciary and Legislature are slaves to the Executive, and you’ll get a System that does not work.

Berita Harian front-paged a report about the proposed amendment to the National Language Act 1963 and the Education Act 1996 to empower Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) to penalise the private sector and agencies that fail to use Bahasa Malaysia in official dealings.

The Attorney-General Chambers is studying the matter. Under the proposed law, action would be taken against those not using Bahasa Malaysia during meetings, preparation of minutes and official functions.

A draft of the proposed amendments to the Acts has been discussed with the Education Ministry and would be tabled in Parliament.

Good heavens! Positively preposterous eh wot? Shorely they can’t be serious? Resorting to coercion? Forcing us all to speak Malay? Un-bloody-believable ol’ chap.

They do not seem to have the foggiest that not a single soul outside their country (save perhaps those mad dogs in Indonesia) gives a tuppence, farthing and a ha’penny about this language, doo they?

Wot next I shudder to envisage – outlawing English? Heavens to murgatroyd!

What they should be doing is penalise all those who positively mangle the Queeeen’s Englisshh – those who do not know their grammar from their grandmother – off with their heads I sayy!

I should shorely have a word with my Member of Parliament so as to put a halt to this indubitable idiocy once and for all, shouldn’t I, wot wot?

‘1Toilet’ plan to let teachers and students mingle freely

KUALA TERENGGANU: The state government will introduce a “1Toilet” policy in a move to liberalise education, where teachers – and even principals – will soon have to share toilets with their students.

State Education, Higher Learning, Human Resource, Science and Technology Committee chairman Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said the policy was mooted in line with the 1Malaysia concept, and teachers and students could have a feeling of “oneness”.

“We want students to have a sense of belonging that we believe would inspire them to excel further in their education. “When students share the toilets with the teacher, they (students) will believe that they are on par with academicians and this automatically invokes a sense of being important to an organisation, which, in this case, is the school,” he said here yesterday.

… and we’re wondering why this country is going down the toilet.
… would Najib think this is like throwing shit at his 1Malaysia campaign?

After which, we hear from another youth who, because of her understanding of her religion, eschews discrimination based on ‘race’, but in turn causes us to question … 

… “is there’s a danger that Islam, rather than race, could become the new divider in her vision of a future Malaysia?”

This idea came about when I received an email through the KeADILan Power e-group comparing the barbarism of civil law caning with the ‘indah’-ness of Syariah caning, complete with pictures of bloodied buttocks vs. what seemed to appear as ’soft’ taps of a Syariah caning sentence being meted out.

All I could ask in reply was, “and that makes it alright?”

Another who replied to the email said, among other things:

When I see pictures like this I like to ask Muslims – especially our brothers in the Opposition. Is this adil that you have to whip a woman? Where will you stop? In Sudan they are going to sentence a lady for wearing pants. Next time in Malaysia, if some Pas people had their way, they will ask for this too. 

Bands that have good clean music have been stopped and concerts threatened.

Please Muslim brothers, let’s be moderate especially the Pas and Keadilan brothers .

The BN is coming with guns blazing and have announced that they will capture the Selangor government . 

 If you dont change your way of thinking you are actually helping them. Please throw Hasan Ali from Pas out. What he is doing is helping BN all the way. Throw him  out now or you will be dragged in into issues that you will have no choice but to support because he seems ‘more Muslim’ than others .

 Throw you weight behind the coalition. We need the numbers to win the next election .

If we lose it will be all your fault . There is no place for extremism in Malaysia . 

 The moderate – well versed with the Koran – Muslims must stand up and speak out against issues like these.

Look closely at every face in those photos and ask yourselves:

Who are these Muslims?

Why are they behaving this way?

Where have they learned this brand of Islam?

… and most importantly …

What can I do to influence them to adopt the true and beautiful teachings of Islam?

Please, my Muslim brothers and sisters in KeADILan, find out each of their names, where they live or work and visit them one by one. Seek to arrange a meeting with each of them to dialogue, in an amicable manner, the true and peaceful teachings of Islam.

It is heartening to know that Chief Minister Khalid has arranged to meet these people on the 5th of Sept.

I sincerely hope all of you will take that opportunity, not only to “explain the decsion why the relocation of the temple”, but to also conduct the first in a series of intra-religious dialogues with these, your Muslim brothers, in order to bring them closer to the true and compassionate teachings of your religion.

Further to this, I hope that someday in the near future, a similar dialogue will be held with your partners in PAS, to try and urge them to adopt a less fundamentalist, more progressive stance in light of the democratic and secular nature of our beloved Malaysia.

These Muslims are ugly now, but you can help them transform into beautiful, peaceful, compassionate Muslims like your goodselves.

Be not afraid of their belief that only they know what ‘true’ Islam is.

Be not cowed by their air of piousness and seemingly superior knowlege of theology.

Be not intimidated by their accusations that you are “traitors to Islam”.

For you are our hope for a One Better Malaysia.

Hassan Ali’s religious police to nab errant Muslims

Mosque committee members such as the imam and the bilal will be given powers to arrest Muslims drinking alcohol in public, in a move that highlights the fundamentalist face of PAS and could scare off non-Muslim voters from backing the Pakatan Rakyat (PR). Selangor executive councilor in charge of religion Hassan Ali, who has been locked in controversy over his views on the open sale of beer in convenience stores, made the announcement today.

He also said that the mosque committee members would be allowed to arrest Muslims for selling and storing alcoholic beverages.

Such a ruling could result in many Malay-Muslims losing their jobs in restaurants and hotels in the state.

It is also likely to have consequences for many businesses in the state, and could drive non-Muslim voters who have been strong supporters of the PR alliance to Barisan Nasional (BN).

… or just drive them out of Malaysia.

Hassan also said that the mosque committee members would be given wide ranging powers to also help in the arrest of Muslims for being “disrespectful during the Ramadan month”.

The new ruling suggests a push for a culture of intolerance reminiscent of attempts made by both Terengganu and Federal Territory religious officials to set up snoop squads to report on “immoral activities” a few years ago.

Meanwhile, PAS Youth are egging on Kartika’s whipping sentence:

“They have obtained conviction and as requested by her and family the sentence must be carried out,” said Youth chief Nashrudin Hassan.

“We do not want the syariah courts to be seen to be inconsistent or powerless,” he added, refusing to comment further on the sentence postponement.

On the legal complication that could arise from the punishment (only prisoners can be caned, but she was not sentenced to prison), he said the religious authorities should have studied the matter earlier.

The religious authorities should be living in an earlier century … like 600AD.

In a telephone interview with the New York Times, Amir Muhammad, an author and filmmaker said, “We’ve allowed this huge Islamic bureaucracy to grow over the last three decades.”

The scope of Islamic laws appears to have widened in Malaysia over the past few years. Muslims have been prevented from converting to other religions, officials have barred Muslims from working in restaurants or convenience stores that carry alcohol — although this
policy has not been fully carried out — and religious authorities have questioned whether Muslims should be allowed to practice yoga. When laws are enforced, Malaysians often complain that the elite are exempted.

Malaysia’s Islamic laws, which cover marriage, divorce and a specific range of issues related to religious customs, apply only to Muslims.

… but creep out non-Muslims nonetheless … none of us wants to live in an Islamic State, laws that apply to a certain class will still have a chilling effect on those who have to live alongside.

The more zealous these zealots become, the more non-Muslims may have to suffer ‘accidental’ harrassment just because they ‘look’ Malay.

I predict many Eurasians, Portugese, Filipinos and East Malaysians being needlessly hassled for eating/drinking in public.

The further these extremist tentacles spread, the further non-Muslim opinion and rights to speak out will be repressed. Take this posting as an example: any Muslim can point at me and say, “you’re non-Muslim, and so have no right to speak on this, so shut the fuck up, or risk being accused of insulting Islam!” (which could be made a criminal offence affecting non-Muslims if PAS had their way).

Pakatan Rakyat (PR) already has its hands full dealing with the BN-Umno devils, now they have to contend with idiots still labouring under the delusion that those who voted them in actually gave them some mandate to run riot with their extremism.

If Pakatan Rakyat (PR) want to remain in our good books come GE13 in two/three years time, PAS MUST BE KEPT ON THE SHORTEST OF LEASHES (and I use the analogy purposely), FAILING WHICH, KICKED OUT.

PR will be better off bringing in Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) and discarding PAS for all time. I’m damn sure that apart from Kelantan, PKR, DAP or PSM can win in constituencies currently held by PAS.

If you thought the last 50 years of Islamisation under Umno was bad enough, let PAS remain in Pakatan Rakyat and get ready for many records to be broken, because, instead of battling the real demons of corruption, racism and economic disparity, these fuckers have no other work but police tax-paying citizens morals and so bring us all back to the 7th century.
