PI retracts stunning statutory declaration
[Malaysiakini 11.10 am - excerpt]
Private detective P Balasubramaniam today retracted his stunning statutory declaration which had linked Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to murdered Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu. The said declaration also had claims that Najib had a sexual relationship with Altantuya and that he was the one who had introduced Altantuya to Abdul Razak Baginda.
Balasubramaniam said that he was forced to make the declaration under duress. At a press conference in a hotel in Kuala Lumpur this morning, he produced a new statutory declaration.
Missing from the new statutory declaration were all references to Najib.
This include Najib having an affair with Altantuya and that Najib was the person who allegedly introduced Abdul Razak to the Mongolian woman.
Bala’s new stat dec
Bala’s old stat dec
[Both from Malaysiakini - if you don't have a Malaysiakini account, the STAR and Anwar's blog also have it]
My favourite part:
51. On the day Abdul Razak Baginda was arrested, I was with him at his lawyers office at 6.30am. Abdul Razak Baginda informed us that he had sent Najib Razak an SMS the evening before as he refused to believe he was to be arrested, but had not received a response.
52. Shortly thereafter, at about 7.30am, Abdul Razak Baginda received an SMS from Najib Razak and showed, this message to both myself and his lawyer. This message read as follows: “ I am seeing IGP at 11am today … matter will be solved … be cool”.
And the retractions:
i) At no time did Abdul Razak inform me that he had sent Najib an SMS the evening before he was arrested; and
j) At no time did Abdul Razak Baginda inform me that Najib Razak had sent him an SMS on the day of his arrest to the effect that he was going to see the IGP that day and that the matter should be resolved and for Abdul Razak Baginda to remain calm.
Note: After making the first stat dec, Bala, according to Malaysiakini, is summoned to the Brickfields Police Station:
Americk (Singh Sidhu, Bala’s lawyer) told Malaysiakini that Balasubramaniam received a phone call from the police soon after his press conference yesterday to report to the Brickfields police station.
He said that he last saw Balasubramaniam at 4.45pm after dropping off his client at the police station.
Today, he retracts his stat dec and issues a new one …
… things that make you go hmmmm…

On an opposing note, why didn’t Americk follow Bala, his client, into the police station? I would certainly want my lawyer with me…
… things that make you go … huh?….
As Andy Gray would say, “Theas maartch ez farrr froom ovarrr … etts end ta end stoof maite … Geame onnnn!!!”
Anwar’s press conference [yesterday - 3 Jul 08]:
Part 1:
Part 2:
Meanwhile, the PM (when he woke up, yesterday evening) said:
“The government is stable. The security is under control. Everything is under control. Don’t believe anything you hear.”
Does “anything” include what you’ve just said?
Enid Keese wrote this comment to my July 2 post:
Is there anything beautiful or uplifting about the Malaysian mind that we can read about?
The Anwar saga and the responses to which you gave so much unnecessary coverage simply indicate the low mentality of a backward country, obsessed with sexual matters of the worst kind where anybody can dish up the dirt on anyone and throw it around without responsibility or restraint.
There is suffering and there are good deeds in this world.
Why do we have to read about this kind of dirt that leads nowhere?
I am ashmed to call myself Malaysian when I read things like this!
Malaysiakini’s Vox Populi also had varying comments: ‘What has become of our leaders?’
Meanwhile the “links’ between Najib and Saiful appear increasingly apparent:
According to the Star:
Anwar’s accuser visited DPM at his home before lodging police report
Wow … isn’t it a breeze for the common citizen ‘who’s never met the Deputy Prime Minister before’ to simply drop by and visit him … at his house, even. I should drop by Badawi’s place for a hot cup of Milo before his bedtime tonight, then.

Meanwhile the venue for the PETROL HIKE PROTEST has been changed yet again!!!
It’s now at KELANA JAYA STADIUM
This is confirmed by the organisers PROTES 2008 and by Suara KeADILan
How are they gonna cram “sejuta rakyat” into a stadium that can only accomodate 100,000 [both on stands and on field]?
